Steven came to New Zealand in 1990. Since 1998 he has started to service community and been elected as Massey Community Board Member. In year 2000 he went to Wellington to attend Parliament Law and Order Committee’s hearing to express Chinese community’s concern in personal safety and he suggested tougher law to cut down the crime rate.
In year 2000 to 2004 he has set up Hua An Trust Board with other Chinese Community leaders to promote safety issues to the Chinese community and international students. Those activities included cooperating with New Zealand Police to open 0800-hotline to enable Asian victims to report crimes in Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean to New Zealand Police. He also went to Chinese radio programme to promote “Being a New Zealander” (how to be a good New Zealander), community safety and road safety. He was also Massey High School Board of Trustee, Conservation Board Member of Ministry of Conservation, President of Auckland Chinese Lion’s Club to support blind people in need.
His home country is Chongqing ,China. He was born in Tayhang Mountain, Henan province and brought up in Taiwan. He graduated from Taiwan Ocean University, subject in marine engineering degree. At his early career as a marine engineer he had travelled to more than fifty countries of the world and worked in USA as marine superintendent.
